Blueprint for a Simulation Framework to Increase Driver Training Safety in North America: Case Study

Despite numerous recent advances in the classroom and in-vehicle driver training education over last quarter-century, traffic accidents remain a leading cause of mortality for young adults—particularly, those between ages 16 19. Obviously, despite conventional (e.g., classroom, in-vehicle, Graduated Driver Licensing programs), this remains critical public safety health concern. As advanced vehicle technologies continue to evolve, so too does unintended potential mechanical, visual, and/or cognitive distraction adverse events on national highways. For these reasons, physics-based modeling high-fidelity simulation have great serve as supplementary component near-future teen-driver framework. Here, case study is presented that examines specification, development, deployment “blueprint” framework intended increase North America. A multi-measure assessment simulated performance was developed instituted, including quantitative simulator-measured), qualitative evaluator-observed), self-report metrics. Preliminary findings are presented, along with summary novel contributions through framework, well planned improvements suggestions future directions.
